Serving Hillcrest from our Mission Hills clinic

Hillcrest and Mission Hills are neighbors. The City of San Diego places both inside its Uptown community planning area, which the city describes as sitting just north of Downtown and near Presidio and Balboa parks. Our Mission Hills location is the SDBody clinic for people who live or work in Hillcrest, and SDBody’s Mission Hills testosterone page names Hillcrest among the neighborhoods the clinic is convenient from.

SDBody does not have an office in Hillcrest. Hillcrest patients who book with SDBody have their consultations, lab draws and follow-up visits at the Mission Hills clinic on Hancock Street, or at the La Jolla clinic if they prefer.

SDBody, founded in 2018, is a physician-led hormone and wellness practice with two San Diego clinics. At Mission Hills, a clinician starts by reviewing each patient’s goals, symptoms, history and other clinical details before deciding whether to move to an examination, further testing or a treatment evaluation.

Hormone and wellness services for Hillcrest patients

Unless a service is marked otherwise, it is offered at the Mission Hills clinic. Each medical service carries its own candidacy questions, evidence, risks and monitoring needs, which a clinician explains before treatment begins.

Hormone replacement therapy

SDBody’s hormone replacement therapy includes testosterone, DHEA, thyroid, estrogen and progesterone care. Depending on the hormone and the patient, the delivery options a clinician may discuss include creams, injections, pills and patches. SDBody describes this care separately for men and women, and states that it approaches both the same way, beginning with a physician evaluation.

Testosterone replacement therapy

Our Mission Hills testosterone replacement therapy page, medically reviewed by Dr. Shawn Vedamani, MD, explains that low testosterone is confirmed with blood work, typically over more than one draw, and read together with symptoms, medical history and current medications. It also notes that testosterone levels follow a daily pattern, so testing is generally done in the morning. Labs are drawn on site at Mission Hills, and the clinic opens at 8am Monday through Friday.

There is also a testosterone replacement therapy page for Hillcrest patients.

Medical weight loss

Medical weight loss starts with a clinician reviewing weight and health history, previous attempts, medications or conditions that can affect weight, and the patient’s goals. If a medical plan is a good fit, the clinician explains what follow-up involves and how progress will be measured.

Peptide therapy

Peptide therapy starts with a physician evaluation covering candidacy, the available evidence, safety and how treatment would be monitored. Whether a peptide is appropriate at all is decided patient by patient.

IV and NAD+ therapy

IV and NAD+ therapy is given in the Mission Hills clinic’s IV suite with provider oversight.

Diagnostic labs

Testing is chosen around the clinical question. Mission Hills offers three panels: Hormone, Core and Advanced. Medical staff go through the options in the clinic, and a clinician confirms or adjusts the panel with the patient. Results are then read alongside symptoms, history and medications. See diagnostic labs in Mission Hills, or compare the panels with the lab assessment.

Recovery and wellness at Mission Hills

The Mission Hills clinic has a cryotherapy chamber, along with red light therapy and an infrared sauna and cold plunge. Hyperbaric oxygen therapy and PEMF therapy are listed at SDBody’s La Jolla clinic instead.

What a first visit looks like

SDBody publishes a four-step path for new patients. Hillcrest patients follow the same path at Mission Hills.

  1. Intake. The patient explains their goals and what feels off, with room for a real conversation.
  2. Lab draw. The patient chooses a lab panel, and staff are on hand to explain the options.
  3. Consultation. A clinician goes over the lab results alongside the patient’s symptoms and history, then walks through the options.
  4. Next steps. If care makes sense, the clinician sets out the proposed plan along with alternatives, possible risks and how progress would be monitored.

The full process is on the how it works page.

Why does SDBody point Hillcrest patients to Mission Hills?
Hillcrest and the Mission Hills neighborhood both sit within the City of San Diego's Uptown community planning area, and SDBody's Mission Hills testosterone page names Hillcrest as a neighborhood the clinic is convenient from. Patients are still free to book at the La Jolla clinic instead.
Do I need a referral?
No. Patients can book directly with the Mission Hills clinic. It helps to bring a list of current medications and supplements, along with any recent bloodwork.
What kind of clinician will I see?

Does insurance cover hormone therapy?

We accept credit cards, debit cards, HSA, and FSA payments for eligible services. Pricing is discussed upfront, so you’ll know the cost of your care before treatment.
Is hormone therapy safe?
Benefits and risks differ from patient to patient and between treatments. Before recommending anything, a clinician looks at the patient's personal and family medical history, any contraindications, the alternatives, and how treatment would be monitored.
