Physician-led care in Mission Hills and La Jolla

Labs read in clinical context

Medical Weight Loss in Mission Hills, San Diego

The hardest part of a weight loss program is usually not the plan. It is finding a clinic that will look at why your body is behaving this way instead of handing you the same advice you have already followed for years.

SDBody, formerly Hormones and Wellness, runs a physician-led medical weight loss program at our Mission Hills clinic, 1747 Hancock St Ste C, minutes from Downtown San Diego and the airport. We open at 8am, which makes early appointments realistic for people who work downtown.

What Medical Weight Loss Means Here

Four things separate this from a commercial weight loss program.

  • Bloodwork comes first. We draw a panel on-site and look at what may be working against you across hormone, thyroid, and metabolic markers. Our panels are Hormone, Core, and Advanced. See diagnostic labs.
  • A clinician reads the results with you. In person, in context, against your history and your current medications.
  • Prescribing authority when it is appropriate. FDA-approved prescription medications for weight management exist and your clinician will discuss whether one suits you, what it does, what the side effects are, and what monitoring it needs.
  • Follow up that is built in. Doses, tolerances, and markers get reviewed as you go, rather than after something goes wrong.

Why Effort Alone Often Is Not Enough

Plenty of people arrive here having done everything right and gotten nowhere. That is usually physiology rather than discipline.

Thyroid function, insulin resistance, sleep quality, chronic stress load, and the medications you already take all influence how your body handles weight. In men, low testosterone can sit underneath stubborn midsection fat that will not respond to training. In women, perimenopausal and menopausal changes shift where weight settles and how hard it is to lose. Our pages on men, women and why hormone levels change with age go into this properly.

None of this means effort stops mattering. It means you deserve to know what you are working against before you spend another year on trial and error.

Your First Visit to Mission Hills

  1. Intake. Goals, history, and what you have already tried, with time to talk it through.
  2. Lab draw. Our medical staff explain the panel options in the clinic so you can choose properly.
  3. Consultation. A clinician reviews your results against your symptoms, history, and medications.
  4. Next steps. If care is appropriate, you get the plan, the alternatives, the risks, and the monitoring schedule before anything begins.

The full pathway is on our how-it-works page.

What We Will Not Promise

Any clinic quoting you a guaranteed number of pounds is selling rather than treating. Results vary with your starting point, your labs, the approach you and your clinician choose, and how your body responds.

Prescription weight management medications carry side effects, commonly gastrointestinal ones, and not everyone tolerates them. Some people should not take them at all. Your clinician will cover the specifics that apply to you before you decide.

The other thing we raise early rather than late is what happens after the first phase. Protein intake, resistance training, and sleep all matter for keeping muscle while losing fat, and they matter more when medication is part of the plan.

Signs This Program Is Worth A Look

Patients who do well here usually recognize themselves in at least a few of these.

  • You have lost weight before and regained it more than once
  • Your weight climbed steadily through your thirties or forties without a clear change in habits
  • Fat has settled around the midsection specifically, and training does not touch it
  • You are tired in a way that sleep does not fix, which often shows up in bloodwork
  • You have been told your labs are normal while still feeling wrong. See normal labs and still feel off.
  • You want a clinician following your progress rather than an app and a monthly charge

Why Patients Choose SDBody Mission Hills

  • Physician-led. Co-founders Dr. Shawn Vedamani, MD, Medical Director, and a board-certified anesthesiologist with more than 15 years of clinical experience, and Dr. Alex Roher, MD, also a board-certified anesthesiologist. Brooke Stearns, PA-C, our Lead Medical Provider, works specifically in hormone optimization, weight management, and longevity medicine. See our providers page.
  • Hormones and weight are treated as one problem. For many patients, that is exactly what they are.
  • Recovery services in the same building. Cryotherapy, infrared sauna, cold plunge and red light therapy.
  • Costs explained before you commit. Coverage and self-pay costs depend on the service and your plan.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I have to take medication?
No. Medication is one option among several and it is not right for everyone. Some patients start with labs and hormone care. Your clinician will lay out the choices and the reasoning.
Do I need labs before starting?
Yes. Testing is what makes this a medical program, and it frequently changes the recommendation. Begin with our lab assessment.
Can I book before work?
Yes. Mission Hills opens at 8am Monday through Friday, which is why downtown patients tend to choose this location.
Can men combine this with testosterone therapy?
Yes, and it is a common combination. Body composition and hormone levels are linked, so your clinician will build one plan covering both.
Is medical weight loss covered by insurance?
Coverage and self-pay costs depend on the service and your plan. We will walk through what is included before you commit to anything.
