SDBody, formerly Hormones and Wellness, offers peptide therapy at our La Jolla clinic, 7710 Fay Ave, a free-standing practice in the heart of La Jolla village. It is physician-led; it starts with bloodwork, and the conversation happens with a clinician rather than a sales counter.
What Peptides Are
Peptides are short chains of amino acids. Your body makes many of them, and they act as signals that influence processes such as metabolism, appetite, tissue repair, and hormone release. That is a real biological category, and some of the most significant medications of the last decade are peptides.
The category is broad enough to be almost meaningless on its own. Some peptide medications are FDA approved, extensively studied, and prescribed every day. Others are research compounds that have never been approved for human treatment. Marketing copy routinely mixes the two together, and that is where patients get hurt.
The Part Most Clinics Leave Out
Several of the peptide compounds you will see advertised around San Diego and La Jolla sit in FDA Category 2 for bulk drug substances used in compounding. That designation means the FDA evaluated them and identified significant safety risks, and they are not eligible for the interim policy that allows other substances to be compounded. FDA has stated it intends to take regulatory action, including warning letters and product seizure, where compounders use Category 2 substances.
That is why this page does not publish a compound menu. At SDBody, a clinician evaluates you, explains exactly what is being recommended, tells you its regulatory status, and answers what the evidence supports before anything is prescribed. If a peptide is not appropriate or not legally available to prescribe, you will be told, and you will be offered something that is.
If a clinic hands you a stack list before it has seen your bloodwork, walk out.
Who Comes to Us About Peptides?
- Patients focused on body composition who want to know whether a peptide has any role in their plan
- Athletes and active adults chasing better recovery
- Patients already in hormone care who have heard peptides mentioned and want a straight assessment
- People who have been prescribed something elsewhere and want a second opinion from a physician-led practice
- Patients working on medical weight loss, where FDA-approved peptide medications are genuinely part of the standard toolkit
Labs Come First
Every peptide conversation at our La Jolla clinic starts with testing, because the answer often has nothing to do with peptides. Low testosterone, thyroid dysfunction, poor sleep, iron status, and metabolic markers all produce the symptoms people bring to a peptide clinic.
Our three panels are Hormone, Core, and Advanced, drawn on site and reviewed by the clinician who will be treating you. See diagnostic labs for the detail.
Your Visit, Step By Step
- Intake. Goals, history, current medications and supplements, with real-time talk.
- Lab draw. Our medical staff explain the panel options in the clinic so you can choose properly.
- Consultation. A clinician reads your results against your symptoms and history.
- Next steps. If care is appropriate, you get the plan, the alternatives, the risks, and the monitoring schedule explained before anything begins.
The full pathway is on our how it works page.
Why SDBody La Jolla?
- Physicians in the practice. Co-founders Dr. Shawn Vedamani, MD, Medical Director and a board certified anesthesiologist with more than 15 years of clinical experience, and Dr. Alex Roher, MD, also a board certified anesthesiologist. Brooke Stearns, PA-C, our Lead Medical Provider, works in hormone optimization, weight management and longevity medicine. See our providers page.
- We will tell you when the answer is no. That is worth more than a longer menu.
- Diagnostics and recovery in the same building. Labs, hormone care, hyperbaric oxygen therapy, red light therapy, and infrared sauna, and cold plunge.
- Clear costs before you commit. Coverage and self pay costs depend on the service and your plan.
