Labs read in clinical context

Diagnostic Labs and Blood Work in La Jolla, San Diego

Most people who feel run down have never had proper bloodwork. They have had a rushed annual physical, a basic panel, and a message that everything looked fine. Then they went back to feeling the same.

This page is educational and is not medical advice.

SDBody, formerly Hormones and Wellness, runs diagnostic lab testing at our La Jolla clinic, 7710 Fay Ave, a free-standing practice in the heart of La Jolla village. Blood is drawn on site, and a clinician sits down with you afterwards to explain what the results actually mean for you.

Testing Is Where Everything Here Starts

Every service we offer runs downstream of this page. Hormone care, weight management, peptide conversations, and recovery planning all depend on knowing what is going on inside first. Guessing is expensive, and it wastes months.

We offer three panels: Hormone, Core, and Advanced. Depending on your goals and symptoms, testing may cover hormone, thyroid, metabolic, and other markers. Our medical staff walks you through the panel options in the clinic so you can choose with a clear understanding of what each one covers, rather than picking from a website menu at midnight.

The Part That Makes the Difference

Anyone can draw blood. The value is in the interpretation.

A clinician reviews your results in context, against your symptoms, your history, and the medications you already take. A number sitting inside a reference range is not automatically the right number for you, and a number slightly outside one is not automatically a problem. Reference ranges describe populations. You are a person with a specific history, and that is how the results get read here.

If your results point somewhere we do not treat, you will be told that too.

Your Visit, Step By Step

  1. Intake. You tell us your goals and what feels off, with enough time to talk it through.
  2. Lab draw. You choose your panel with our medical staff walking you through the options.
  3. Consultation. A clinician reviews your results in context and explains what they mean.
  4. Next steps. If care is appropriate, the clinician explains the plan, the alternatives, the risks, and the monitoring before anything starts.

The full pathway is on our how-it-works page, and there is more detail on our lab assessment page.

Symptoms That Are Worth Testing For

How To Get A Clean Result

A few practical things make your numbers more useful. Several hormone markers move through the day, so timing your draw matters, and our team will tell you when to come in. Heavy training the day before, a poor night of sleep, an active illness, dehydration, and certain supplements can all shift results enough to muddy the picture. Bring a full list of your medications and supplements, including anything you take occasionally, and tell us about recent bloodwork from another provider so we are comparing like with like rather than starting from scratch.

What We Will Not Do

We will not tell you a panel found something it did not. We will not use a borderline result to sell you a therapy you do not need. And we will not present lab testing as a diagnosis on its own, because bloodwork is one input into a clinical picture that also includes your history, your symptoms, and your examination.

If your results are genuinely unremarkable and your symptoms are real, that is a finding worth taking seriously, and it changes the conversation rather than ending it.

Why Patients Choose SDBody La Jolla

  • Physician-led. Co-founders Dr. Shawn Vedamani, MD, Medical Director, and a board-certified anesthesiologist with more than 15 years of clinical experience, and Dr. Alex Roher, MD, also a board-certified anesthesiologist. Brooke Stearns, PA-C, our Lead Medical Provider, works in hormone optimization, weight management, and longevity medicine. See our providers page.
  • Draw and review in one place. No lab across town, no result dropped into a portal with no explanation attached.
  • Everything else is here too. Hormone care, medical weight loss, peptide therapy and a full recovery floor.
  • Clear costs before you commit. Coverage and self pay costs depend on the service and your plan, and we walk through what is included first.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to fast before my blood draw?
It depends on the panel. Our team will tell you exactly what to do when you book, including timing, because some hormone markers are best drawn at a particular time of day.
Which panel should I choose?
That is what the intake conversation is for. Our medical staff walk you through the Hormone, Core and Advanced options in the clinic and help you match one to your goals and symptoms.
Do I get a real explanation of my results?
Yes. A clinician reviews your results with you in context. That review is part of the pathway rather than an add-on.
Do I need a referral?
No. You can book directly with our La Jolla clinic.
Is lab testing covered by insurance?
Coverage and self-pay costs depend on the service and your plan. We will walk through what is included before you commit to anything.
